Domain Expiry Stages

Domain Expiry Stages

To keep your website active and prevent others from purchasing your domain name, it is important to renew your registration before it expires.  No worries, domains purchased or transferred into Weaveform are auto-renewed.

Why Timely Renewal Matters

When a domain registration ends, it doesn't immediately become available to others. Instead, it goes through several stages. If it is not renewed during these "grace periods," the domain will eventually be released for public purchase, meaning anyone else can buy and use it.

Domain Expiration Stages

Below are the stages a domain goes through once it reaches its expiration date. We recommend renewing as soon as possible to avoid extra fees or the loss of your web address.

Registration & Active Period
  1. Domains can be registered typically 1–10 years.
  2. Full control and DNS/email services are active during this time.

Expiration / Grace Period
  1. After expiry, domains often enter a grace period (about 30 days for most gTLDs) where the owner can renew at the regular price

  1. If not renewed during the grace period, domains may enter RGP (typically 30 days). During this time the previous owner can restore the domain with a redemption fee plus a renewal fee

Pending Delete
  1. After RGP, domains go into pending delete (about 5 days).
  2. At this stage the domain cannot be renewed or restored and will soon be released for general registration
