Setting Up Google Analytics

Setting Up Google Analytics

Google Analytics provides comprehensive, data-driven insights into how visitors find and interact with your website, allowing you to optimize your marketing strategies and improve user experience based on real-world behavior.

How to Install the Tracking Code

  1. Install Google Tag Manager once (recommended by Google)
  2. Create you Google Analytics Account and Web Property
  3. Setup Google Analytics in Google Tag Manager

How to Verify Your Google Analytics Installation

Once you have installed the code, follow these steps to confirm your website is successfully sending data to Google.

1. Check the "Realtime" Report

This is the fastest way to see if your setup is working.

  1. Visit your website: Open your live site in a new browser tab or on your phone.
  2. Open Analytics: In your Google Analytics dashboard, go to Reports > Realtime.
  3. Verify activity: Look for a 1 in the Users in last 30 minutes card. If you see yourself on the map, your installation is active.

2. Check the "Data Stream" Status

Google will show a "receiving" status directly in your settings once data begins to flow.

  1. Go to Admin (gear icon, bottom left).
  2. Under Data collection and modification, click on Data Streams
  3. Select your website stream. At the top, look for a green checkmark or a message stating Data collection is active

Note: It can take up to 24–48 hours for data to appear in your *standard* reports (like Engagement or Acquisition), but the **Realtime** report should update almost instantly.

Troubleshooting Tips

  1. Ad Blockers: If you have an ad-blocking extension enabled in your browser, your visit might not show up in the Realtime report. Try testing in an Incognito window or on a mobile device.
  2. Wait a moment: Sometimes there is a 1-2 minute delay before your specific visit appears in the dashboard.
  3. Duplicate Codes: Ensure you only pasted the code once into the Header Code box to avoid tracking errors.
